Scoliosis is defined as lateral or rotary curvature of the spine. As the spine curves abnormally, the vertebrae are forced to rotate with curve. Scoliosis with no unknown cause is called “idiopathic” scoliosis.
Bracing may be indicated if progression of the scoliosis is noted. Wearing a back brace for a length of time during periods of growth (such as during puberty) can help slow or stop the curves from progressing.
In the Rheumatology and Physical Medicine Department we provide a progressive rehabilitation program for scoliosis, including posture training and strengthening exercises in additional to preventive advises and home exercise.
